Buddhist Monastery Volunteer in 2024-2025
Buddhist monastery volunteering can be a transformative experience that offers valuable teachings to those who participate. Nathan and Aidan’s fascination with Buddhism and the pursuit of inner peace through teaching, meditation, and altruism had long been a shared interest. When they stumbled upon the chance to volunteer at a local Buddhist monastery, they eagerly seized the opportunity. Upon reaching the monastery, they were warmly welcomed by the amiable monks, who guided them through the premises and elucidated the daily routine.
Each morning, the monks would rise early to commence their tasks and duties for the day. Nathan and Aidan were assigned to assist in instructing English and science to young Buddhist monks, introducing them to various types of scientific experiments.
Their interaction with the monks also provided valuable insight into their way of life. The monks imparted wisdom on the significance of compassion and mindfulness in Buddhism, emphasizing how these principles could be applied to enhance their own lives. In the evenings, Nathan and Aidan engaged in collective puja sessions with the monks, delving into diverse meditation techniques and philosophies aimed at fostering inner peace and clarity.
Throughout their stay, Nathan and Aidan were deeply moved by the monks’ kindness and generosity. The selflessness of the monks became a source of inspiration for them, leading them to pledge to integrate these values into their daily lives.
As their time at the monastery drew to a close, Nathan and Aidan experienced a mix of sadness and gratitude. They returned home with a newfound appreciation for Buddhism and the profound teachings of the monks. Eager to perpetuate the lessons learned, they were already planning their next visit to the monastery, recognizing the enduring impact of this transformative experience.
What does a teaching in monastery volunteer do?
Teaching in monastery placements can teach English, Math, creative and fun activities or sports to the monks for around 3 – 4 hours per day. Even if you are less experienced, we have teaching materials that help you when needed. In turn, the monks share their knowledge and culture with the volunteers. If you ask the monks, you can get the chance to learn meditation techniques and receive in-depth knowledge of the Buddhist culture. Teaching in monastery volunteer work is one of our most popular volunteering posts, due to the unique way it allows you to truly be involved in the life of a Buddhist monastery.
Where in Nepal can volunteers help in a monastery?
