Teaching in Monastery and School
I took a plane to Nepal, leaving behind friends and family, to spend the next several months getting to know my new family. Relocating to a developing nation on the other side of the planet might be intimidating. However, I was greeted warmly as a member of the Volunteer World Nepal family as soon as I arrived. Joining Volunteer World Nepal provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to become a member of both the organization and the Nepali community. I never felt alone even though I was away from the folks I knew back home since Volunteer World Nepal’s staff was so kind, welcoming, and enjoyable.
I have access to several volunteer options. Every volunteer at Volunteer World Nepal is encouraged to make the most of the opportunity to gain the most experience possible. It was clear from the start that the personnel at Volunteer World Nepal assisted its volunteers in creating possibilities that were unique to them in addition to providing assistance. I was assigned to teach in a monastery and spend a month at an orphanage when I first arrived at Volunteer World Nepal. Once more, the monastery greeted me with kind grins and hearts. I was able to learn more about Buddhism from the monks and novices who also accompanied me to other temples and cultural events.
They invited me to accompany them on their alms-giving trek to Hetauda and their nighttime prayer and meditation sessions. We decided to extend my stay at the monastery for an additional month because I was having such a great time there. I was also employed at this time in an orphanage that housed forty kids ranging in age from one month to about thirteen. Because of the current political climate, the majority of the population’s low economic standing, and inadequate family planning, Nepal is currently home to a large number of orphans. I was astounded to see the bigger kids at my orphanage tending to the younger ones, even if the older kid was just a year older.
I had the chance to see a variety of Nepali industries thanks to Volunteer World Nepal. Leaving my “new family” in Nepal was difficult. Eight months did not seem like enough time. With hope for Nepal’s future, Volunteer World Nepal is an amazing organization. Discovering your specialization and seeing the real Nepal firsthand is made possible by Volunteer World Nepal’s personnel, programs, and overall experience.
