Teaching English and Photography
I was excited to start my volunteer placement when I arrived in Nepal to get involved at Volunteer World Nepal. After two weeks of hiking, I had a basic understanding of Nepali. Classes in Nepali language started the next day, and it was nice to start using the language straight away. The volunteers were invited inside the home of one of the language instructors to watch the celebrations as the Tihar festival was just getting started. What a fantastic way to begin living in Nepal.
I relocated to a little community south of Kathmandu, where I worked as a volunteer at a high school. I got the chance to reside with a Nepali family, take part in their everyday routine, and experience village life. With a continuous view of the far-off snow-capped mountains, Sunakothi is an extremely lovely place. In my free time, I liked going on long walks and watching the crops being harvested. I oversaw conversation groups in English for students in Classes 5, 6, and 7 (10–14 years old) and worked with students in Class 10 (16–18 years old) on a photography project throughout this period. 28 students took part in the photographic activity overall.
It has been my observation that the personnel of Volunteer World Nepal is incredibly diligent and helpful to their volunteers. The volunteers got together multiple times for full-day tours of the Kathmandu Valley. After a brief orientation, navigating the transportation system became reasonably simple. Additionally, the Nepali people have been incredibly cordial and helpful. I have generally felt quite safe while around the nation.
