Teaching Volunteer Work in a Buddhist Monastery
Volunteer World Nepal has been offering a unique, rewarding, meaningful and life-changing teaching volunteer work in a Buddhist monastery experience. Kimberly Harris, a resident of Australia, completed a volunteer program teaching volunteer work in a Buddhist monastery. Prior to teaching volunteer work in a Buddhist monastery, she had completed an Interior Design Course and worked as a Visual Merchandizing Supervisor. Kimberly decided to take a break from her job and came to Nepal through the Volunteer World Nepal to work as a volunteer for four weeks. After an initial orientation course and visiting historical and cultural heritage sites in and around Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, she was placed in a monastery located in Salleri, a beautiful rural city (by Nepali standards) in the lap of the Himalayas. Ms Harris taught the English language and some entertaining games to young monks undergoing theological courses related to Buddhism. She found the environment in and around the monastery to be very fulfilling and enjoyed being there and teaching the young monks. During her free time, she practised meditation. Holistically speaking, she was happy to have been connected with the Volunteer World Nepal and come to Nepal.
