Volunteer Teacher in Nepal
Anika and I went to Kathmandu, Nepal. We worked as volunteers for two weeks in a local school in Kathmandu, with Volunteer World Nepal. Umesh and Sanu Shrestha, together with their adorable baby Bidusha, made our stay unforgettable. They made as many dinners as we did and greeted us with such warmth. Our room was modest but cosy, with a balcony that offered breathtaking views and a garden full of flowers and plants.
We learned about the Nepali language, culture, and history while we were staying with the Shrestha family. Umesh took great pleasure in answering all of our questions. We did volunteer work at a nearby school. We provided services for Kindergarten and Preschool. The kids were quite eager to learn from us, and the classrooms were exquisitely designed. To engage them in our language and introduce our culture to the kids, we taught them English songs, vocabulary, and conversational speech. Our host instructor gave us the go-ahead to lead a painting lesson, which was an unforgettable experience.
Volunteer World Nepal provided us with support, tours, accommodation, food from a host family, and Nepali language classes. Overall, our experience was eye-opening and heartwarming.
