Teaching in a Rural Area Monastery
Teaching in a rural area monastery by guiding and assisting young little monks within the monastery offers a profound and enriching experience, unveiling a unique insight into their way of life. Yuli, an enthusiastic engineer from Indonesia, recently concluded her impactful role in supporting and encouraging the development of young monks, facilitating their personal growth within the monastery. Serving as a volunteer teacher in a rural Buddhist monastery in Nepal, Yuli contributed significantly to the monks’ educational journey, positively influencing their language proficiency and overall learning experience.
Collaborating with fellow international volunteers, Yuli played a pivotal role in elevating the monks’ communication and pronunciation skills to new heights. Teaching in a rural area monastery not only enhances the educational aspects but also contributes to the monks’ broader cultural exposure.
Beyond the monastery walls, the rural setting of Nepal provided Yuli with a distinctive backdrop to witness and absorb the local dynamics. From bustling markets to the majestic mountains that define the Nepalese landscape, Yuli immersed herself in the daily activities of the community. This hands-on experience allowed her to appreciate the nuances of life in a rural area, offering a perspective that extends beyond the confines of the monastery.
One of Yuli’s personal aspirations was to intimately connect with the towering mountains of Nepal. During her stay, she fulfilled this desire by successfully completing the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. This achievement not only symbolized her physical accomplishment but also served as a testament to her determination and passion for embracing new challenges.

What does a teaching in a rural area monastery volunteer do?
Teaching in monastery placements can teach English, Math, creative and fun activities or sports to the monks for around 3 – 4 hours per day. Even if you are less experienced, we have teaching materials that help you when needed. In turn, the monks share their knowledge and culture with the volunteers. If you ask the monks, you can get the chance to learn meditation techniques and receive in-depth knowledge of the Buddhist culture. Teaching in monastery volunteer work is one of our most popular volunteering posts, due to the unique way it allows you to truly be involved in the life of a Buddhist monastery.
